It is driving me crazy.

because it is like a paint brush with no bristles to hold the paint. it is empty and can't hold color and the more we try to color it the more damaged it becomes.

the same reason why it doesnt hold your natural color anymore its a dying and its doesnt work like it used to

There's no more pigment (color) left in the medulla. Grey hair is also resistant because of lack of pigment(color).

because you need to use permanent color on your hair so it change actually change the melanin in your hair permanently..otherwise you can consider just grey "blending"

What do you consider "very long"? If that is after 3-4 weeks what you are looking at is regrowth. If it is much less than that time, it is a problem with the formulation, application, timing or aftercare.
